About us

A classroom project that became a chain of solidarity

Associació Solidària Units Yo Langutela (United for Hope) grew out of an educational project run with students at Institut Joan Boscà in Barcelona and coordinated by Josep M. Descarrega, the school's Geography teacher.

We help young people who want to study gain access to higher education and change their future. We especially prioritise girls in vulnerable situations, so they can get an education, reach new opportunities and live with greater independence and dignity.

Today's story

Cecília wants to be a nurse

Cecília Francisco Chaúque studies Nursing at Universidade São Tomás de Moçambique (USTM). She lives with her mother and two siblings; the family gets by on occasional farm work on land that isn't theirs.

She finished secondary school in 2021, but her family couldn't afford university. Thanks to everyone who joined last year's campaign, she started her first year in February. Her classes are going very well and she grows more motivated every day.

“Every class I attend, every exam I pass and everything new I learn is also possible thanks to you.”— Cecília, Nursing student
🩺

Her commitment

To study, work hard and make the most of this opportunity. Ours: to stand by her for all four years of her degree, until she graduates.

“Knowing that so many people believe in me gives me a lot of strength to keep going.”

Our story

Ten years of proving it works

2016

It starts at Institut Joan Boscà

Year 9 students and their Geography teacher organise the first charity party to fund the studies of Abi Ngegba, a young woman from Sierra Leone.

2019

Passing the baton: Elton, in Mozambique

Thanks to Teresa and Susana, Elton's story reaches the classroom. The students decide to fund his Mining Engineering degree at the Catholic University of Mozambique in Tete.

2019–21

More schools join in

Students at Institut Pedralbes and Institut Escola Tres Fonts in Les Corts keep Elton's studies going.

Milestones

Two graduations

Abi graduates in Business Administration. Elton completes Mining Engineering, helped by the first charity party in La Fatarella. Today he is the project's local mentor.

2025

Cecília's journey begins

First campaign for Cecília: €2,628 raised. In February she starts her first year of Nursing.

2026

Second year, goal reached

Elton
Our first success story

From losing everything to mining engineer

Elton lost his father, his mother and a brother before he turned 12. His grandmother raised him by farming the land. In 2019 a message from Barcelona changed his life. Today he is an engineer and Cecília's mentor.
